Week 9 | Space + Art | Livier Monarrez
Artistic works have been established to show space technologies. The intertwined of space and art are critical to showing the community advanced technology. For example, the exhibition in the Cultural Center of European Space Technologies (KSEVT) provides the community in the town of Vintage cultural and scientific projects including events, research, and conferences that show the ‘culturalisation of the space’ (Lechner).

Additionally, artists have created three-dimensional kinetic paintings that illustrate a Cosmic dancer as a geometric form that can be seen differently from different angles. This sculpture and painting was transferred to the Russian Mir space station on a Progress rocket. This space art project can be seen in the image below. This sculpture is established in zero gravity which allows viewers to see how integrated art can be in a space habitat environment (Woods).

Moreover, an American pioneer of space art, Chesley Bonestell, created astronomical artworks that showed space travel in paintings with technological details. As shown in the image below, we can see how Jupiter is depicted in an art piece to demonstrate its planet features on a physical piece. This contemporary art relies on artistic imagination of the space activities that take place in outer space (Bonestell). The shadows, saturation and colors help the viewer create a mindset of how the Jupiter planet appears in space.

Hello! I really enjoyed reading this post. I liked how you organized the series of artworks. I also enjoyed the diversity in them. I thought that the 3D kinetic paintings existing in a zero gravity world, created a new way to view art. I also found the space travel paintings quite interesting as they illustrated a new way to exist in space and take up space as a human.
